About Me

I’ve collected watches from Timex to Rolex for over 30 years and have a passion for both mechanical and quartz timepieces. It doesn’t matter if it ticks, hums, or makes no sound; if it has hands that tell time, it has my attention. And I really mean hums; I’ve owned two 70s Accutrons, a Spaceview and an Astronaut. They were fun to wear and great conversation starters.

As a child, one of the things I took apart was my parents’ Baby Ben Westclox windup alarm clock. But unlike the usual childhood result, I managed to put it back together. It worked fine, although my mother always said the alarm never sounded right afterwards.

It was many years after the alarm clock before I did any work on my watches. I didn’t even size my own watch bands or replace batteries. I didn’t have the right tools, and I didn’t want my watches scratched or damaged.

As my hobby grew, so did my collection of watch tools and repair skills. Today, I can take a watch apart, clean it, oil it while reassembling, and usually get reasonable results from my Timegrapher. What I don’t have is hundreds of hours of repetition to build speed. Or the years of experience to know when something might not be quite right. Because of that, I don’t do repair work for others. I wouldn’t want to brick someone’s grandfather’s watch.
